Stones

Gemstones, semiprecious stones and other natural materials harvested from the earth, sea and beast, have long been revered for their decorative appeal as well as their magical potency. These materials have been used for ornamentation and their sacred meaning throughout every ancient civilization, continuing to modern times. Understanding and awakening these natural beauties allows for energy to be transmitted and transformed. The wearer in turn is invited to access the energy for healing, protection and manifestation. The ‘good vibrations’ created by nature’s bounty have transformational abilities when you access their power.

Allow the power of attraction to guide you when selecting your Tarra Rosenbaum artisan jewelry for either yourself or as a gift to be treasured.

Seek not to measure the material, but consider
rather the power which reason has and mere
substance not. ∼ Manilius (Roman astrologer)

Caring for your gemstone and crystals

Tarra Rosembuam works primarily with non-porous materials. As such, the stones may be cleansed by running the jewelry under water, by placing with clear quartz crystals or with sound, such as the tone of tingsha bells. The crystals may be re-energized by placing them in sunlight or moonlight. In general, dark stones prefer the sun and light stones prefer the moon.

Accessing the metaphysical properties works best when you have dedicated the stone to its task, e.g. “manifest abundance”. Simply hold the jewelry in your hands, ask that the stone “awakens”, then create the intention that the crystal is dedicated to the task you desire.

It is recommended that you cleanse the energy of gemstones and crystals after a day’s use.

We turned to Kristin Bredimus to write about the power of stones we use.  Though we have been studying this since we were 12 we thought it was best to turn to an expert to guide you all down the right path.

Metals

  • Brass: Brass is an alloy mixture of copper and zinc. It is known for bringing out ones natural inner truth and good. The saying "getting down to brass tacks" tells of clearing the old and stepping into the new natural truth.

  • Copper: Is one of the most conductive metals. This metal sits on the periodic table at number 29 with the symbol CU. Since it is one of the most conductive metals it clears ones energy and put you in the flow to ones psychic ability. Because of these elements we used copper for our sacred geometry sculptures.

  • Gold: Gold has been said to be the sweat of the sun.  Worshiped for it’s brilliance and highly valued since before recorded history. It has an electrical conductivity  and provides warm sun-energy to the heart chakra and is known for it’s healing properties. This precious metal sits on the periodic table at number 79 with the symbol AU.  Pure gold (24 karat) is very soft but we use 18k for all our pieces and 22k gold plating for the gold vermeil jewelry.  Pure gold is usually alloyed with a mixture of other metals to give it strength, durability and can add to that golden color.

  • Sterling Silver: Silver has been said to be the tears of the moon, bringing clarity and healing as it reflects the soul. We use sterling silver which is an alloy of 92.5% silver mass and 7.5% of other metals. The 7.5% aids in strength and durability of the metal when used in jewelry. Silver sits on the periodic table at number 47 with the symbol Ag. It is a natural antimicrobial and when ingested can prevent illness.  In ancient times goblets were made in silver for just these reasons.   ancient times it would prevent illness.   can be woven into clothes to prevent bacteria growth, or even ingested as a colloid to treat and prevent illness.

  • Caratage is the measurement of purity of gold alloyed with other metals. 24 carat is pure gold with no other metals.  We use 18k gold in all our jewelry which is 75% gold, 25% other metals. The other metal is usually copper or silver which at different amounts can give you a white gold or a yellow gold depending on the amount.

Egyptian Symbols

  • Amulets: An amulet is an ornament, object or charm that is believed to magically protect the owner from harm. The protection can come from a sacred image or color or material – or all three together. Amulets can be worn by a living person to keep them safe from illness or harm, as well as being placed with the deceased in the hopes of protection in the underworld, resurrection and eternal life.

  • Scarab: The ancient Egyptians must have seen dung beetles, especially the large scarab beetles (Scarabaeus sacer), rolling balls of dung where they had planted their eggs to place them in underground tunnels and then their young emerged from the ground—apparently by magic. They associated the rolling of the ball with the voyage of the sun across the sky and down to the underworld to rise again in the morning. So the scarab beetle became the symbol of the god Khepri, the manifestation of the rising sun whose name means “he who comes forth” and was often depicted as a beetle-headed man. The hieroglyph for “khepri” is a visual pun meaning both “scarab” and “to exist”. Amulets in the shape of scarab beetles were used for millennia in Egypt as symbols of life and protection, since they implied existence. They were often made of faience where the bright turquoise blue color increased the life-giving potency of the magic.

  • Winged scarab (pectoral scarab)- During the Late Period in Egypt, representations of a scarab with wings extended placed onto the chest of a wrapped mummy became popular. They were generally made out of faience and sewn to the linen mummy wrappings or woven into bead networks laid over the body. These scarabs were intended to help give the protection of the solar god Khepri to the deceased, resurrecting the individual into life, as he raised the sun each morning, and protecting them into eternity. The wings are usually shown as feathered falcon wings, not beetle wings, so that the protection of the god Horus was also invoked for the mummy. The chest was considered a special place of illumination in the body so a winged faience scarab placed there on a body becomes a complex symbol of protection and eternal life.

  • Heqet frog: Found all along the Nile river after the flooding, the prolific frog became associated with fertility, creation and birth in ancient Egypt. The goddess Heket, goddess of childbirth and fertility, consort of the creator god Khnum, naturally was associated with the frog. Heket was also connected with the Osiris myth, where she was said to have overseen the birth of Horus from his mother Isis and to have assisted in bringing Osiris back to life. The strength of the belief in Heket’s powers to protect women in childbirth and the body in rebirth carried on into the Coptic Christian era in Egypt, where frog amulets and ceramic lamps have been found that read: “I am the resurrection”.
